It’s that time of year folks. The time of year where standards-based grading faces it’s toughest test!
Oh sure, parents are just realizing how effective standards-based grading can be. Students understand the philosophy and parents appreciate the detailed information about what their kiddos can do-not just how they play the grading game. Students may even be more motivated to learn for the sake of knowing and not just trying to score points. Admittedly, there are some great things going on at this time of year in a standards-based classroom.
BUT there is one huge negative that no one wants to talk about in the standards-based grading world. Cold and flu season is bearing down on us! I have a runny nose right now and I can’t find any Kleenex or tissue in the entire school because students AREN’T bringing it for bonus points. This is a crisis and needs to be rectified by the thought leaders of standards-based grading right away [sniff]!
